Boipeba Island has four main villages: Velha Boipeba, Moreré, Cova da Onça and Monte Alegre.
Velha Boipeba is the most important village on the island and is the meeting point for residents and tourists. Where in the main squares such as Praça de Santo Antonio people gather to taste typical Bahian cuisine, meet friends and socialize.
Velha Boipeba was founded by the Jesuits in 1537. It is one of the oldest Portuguese settlements in Bahia. Nowadays it has the best structure on the island, with restaurants, grocery stores, bars, pharmacies and much more tourist activity.
The village itself is very quiet, stone and sandy streets, small, colorful houses and a welcoming, family atmosphere that always accompanies you.
One of the most cultural points on the island is the church of Divino Espírito Santo, built in the 17th century, in neoclassical style and being the main monument on the island.
